Where to startAustralia’s capital has much to offer visitors. With well-planned streets and leafy suburbs, all set within native bushland, it features some of Australia’s most significant landmarks. Art fans should peruse the National Gallery and National Museum, and Parliament and Old Parliament House are also worth a visit. And don’t forget to check out the National War Memorial and Botanic Gardens. Where to eat The multiculturalism of Canberra’s restaurants has grown in recent years, which perhaps reflects the sundry international embassies and consulates located in the city. For budget cuisine check out Kismet or Hansel & Gretel; for mid-range try Sammy’s Kitchen or CREAM; and to splurge, book a table at Rubicon or Aubergine. Where to shop Adjacent to Civic, Lonsdale Street in Braddon houses a handful of boutiques, specialising in independent clothing labels and other designer objects. Manuka is another shopping area, which has boutiques and restaurants, as well as Kingston. For a bit of trash and treasure, check out the Old Bus Depot and Jamison markets. |
