ImageNew York City is the only city in the world that makes me feel the way I do when I’m there. The city that never sleeps is exactly that, and when you leave your hotel it’s like jumping on the hirdy girdy in the park when you were a kid. The city just goes and all you have to decide is when you get on or off the ride that is New York City.

Over the years the Manhattan gay scene has migrated effortlessly from what was once the gay village, Christopher Street, up to Chelsea, into the fashion district to where most of the venues are now in Hell’s Kitchen. I’m not saying that all the bars are in the one street, after all this is New York, and with the number of gay men in the city, the bars are scattered up and down the island. With so much to see, meet and do, without a doubt, there is something for everyone – no matter your taste or persuasion.

Rockit Fridays at Amalia: Amalia is the artistic vision of Chris Sheffield and Steve Lewis of SLDesign (Aspen, Marquee, Butter), layering custom hand-painted wall coverings, fabrics and ornate fixtures with striking architectural elements such as leather clad barrel-vaulted ceilings and existing brick and stone wall surfaces, and if the venue itself is not enough for you, the bar staff are hot and don’t appear to own shirts. Lady Bunny is on the decks as the resident DJ and the club is wall to wall with New Yorks hottest young men. 204 West 55th Street

44 ½ Hell’s Kitchen: I heard about this place from a friend of mine and decided to try it out. I walked in and immediately felt very welcomed and at home. The ambiance of the restaurant is amazing with a very warm feeling, not to mention the very attractive waitstaff who all shoot you winning smiles as you walk in. The food was delicious, as was the service. Combined, the atmosphere was simply quite astounding. 626 10th Avenue (between 44th and 45th)

Doubletree Metropolitan: Finding a hotel in New York is never really an issue with hundreds of hotels to choose from. I think it’s fair to say that if you choose some of the cheaper options you could well feel like you are in an episode of Law and Order SVU. But there have been some good bargains of late.  The Doubletree, which is part of the Hilton group, was offering a room with 2 double beds for $139 per night plus tax.  A great price considering not that long ago, it was almost impossible to find a room Midtown for under $400 a night. 569 Lexington Avenue (Midtown East)

Top of the Rock: After 9/11, the Statue of Liberty was closed to the public but the world famous attraction has re-opened. It involves a substantial number of stairs but you can climb up the inside of the statue into the crown. Bookings are essential. Also, the Top of the Rock observation deck at Rockafella Tower is open daily and is well worth a look. It has arguably the best view in Manhattan. 30 Rockefeller Plaza
